Hope Center – Tejas Asia

CAUSE

Over 200 slums in Tughlakabad with the least resources available. People living in close quarters with poor sanitation and zero healthcare. Youths and children wander about, lacking facilities of education, skill training and moral development. There are 10.13 million child labourers between 5-14 years in India (Census 2011) India has 33 million working children between the ages of 5-18 years.
We want to help them get into school and complete the necessary education.

EFFECT

Hope Centre is a model created by TejasAsia in the last five years by adopting a community in South Delhi. This model has proven to be successful for us. Below you will find the various establishments that we have for the people. Given that paying the fees for these schools becomes a lot on the family, therefore free education is what we advocate. Their motivation is all we need.

IMPACT

A Hope Center consists of:

A School (Hope School), A Play School, Women’s Skill House (Sewing & Beauty School), Youth Projects (English Language School, Computer Training, Football Club), Healthcare Clinic, Water Stations, A Food Kitchen, Hope Connect.

HEALTH CLINIC

CAUSE

Healthcare can be a real hassle. Repeated doctor’s visits with a list of expenses that has the capacity to put families in debt. The government facilities available in our country tend to lack quality. Sometimes resulting in more damage after than was before. We desire to step in the gap and provide healthcare that can save lives. With decreased lifestyle increased healthcare becomes a must!

EFFECT

At the Hope Center we frequently have health check ups with no price added to it. It is open to everyone in the community. Basic medicines are provided during these check ups. Adept doctors write out the prescriptions and spend hours in a day to cater to the health needs of the people.

IMPACT

We want healthcare to be an easy access for the people in the communities. Good health to not be a struggle. Over 72,000 people we have reached out to with free Medical Care. We desire to step in the gap and provide healthcare that can save lives. With decreased lifestyle increased healthcare becomes a must!

WOMEN’S SKILLHOUSE

CAUSE

In households where the man is the only wage earner of the family, financially it never is enough for the whole family to sustain on the small portion of income. In such cases it becomes necessary for the woman to step in and share the weight of the family finance. And we help them play that role.

EFFECT

We provide Sewing Skill Training to the ladies enabling them to begin their small or big enterprises where they can support their family and have a better living.  We provide classes at a beginners level as well as advanced.

We want to see them be economically independent, self-reliant and oozing with confidence once they step out of their training.

IMPACT

On their graduation we provide them with sewing kits to help them have a fresh start. Their happy and content faces have always been of assurance to us to keep investing in their lives. We have seen women developing businesses and finding it to be a way to support the finance of their family. We want to continue to see such amazing works in the lives of people.

Food Kitchen

CAUSE

The prevalence of underweight children in India under the age of 5 is 44%, that is 9.3 million children suffer from malnutrition. 72% of infants have anaemia. Around 45% of deaths among children under 5 years of age are linked to undernutrition. Health incapabilities hold them back from achieving anything else that possibly could. On an everyday cycle the nutrients needed are lacking, developing different deficiencies.

EFFECT

These are startling facts and it is vital for these facts to be changed.
Given that our goal is to proffer daily meals and revise the facts stated above, we have a fully functional, operating kitchen in which these meals are cooked everyday. The kitchen is kept clean at all times and fresh meals are prepared to be sent out.

IMPACT

We envision to grow this Kitchen in other parts of Delhi in the near future. As Mother Teresa said “Give your hands to serve and your hearts to love” we want to continue giving our everything to serve people where they can have a sound sleep at night with their stomachs rested. We strongly believe that we will be doing more in the years to come.

HOPE CONNECT

CAUSE

Everyone needs someone in their life to talk to and share if there’s something that has been on their mind that’s been bothering them. We at TejasAsia have cultivated an atmosphere where everyone has someone who they can share their burdens with. As a stronger community we will bring out greater change. We don’t let a day go by where there isn’t a person who has been asked “How are they doing?” We understand that there are enough things to stress a person out outside. We never want TejasAsia to be a source of stress for anyone.

EFFECT

That was the idea behind Hope Connect. A place where the staff could come together and spend time together to discuss life and its challenges. A place where walls are brought down.

In the light of many giving up on their lives due to lack of hope and the feeling of unwanted-ness we definitely want to make sure that’s not how our staff should ever be feeling. They are more than just employees to us.

IMPACT

Every employee at all times is instilled with positive upliftment. They are affirmed in the work that they do which can be seen in the results of how far the NGO has come. There is always communication flown down from the leadership all the way to every single member on the team and it is of extreme importance for us to develop the passion within each person connected with us. It is safe to say, everyone working at TejasAsia is understood to be a part of the family that started 10 years ago and would not ever feel alone in this world.

Youth Project

We have also specifically invested in the youths at the community, where through time we have organised exceptional skill based training in English Language, Computer Training and Football Trainings.
We want the young kids to be comprehensively built and have integral training in the requisite skills needed.

our Impact Stories

the story of ansh

7 years old, Tughlakabad

Ansh, seven, lives in Tughlakabad, Delhi. His family moved from Bihar, one of India’s eastern states, ten years ago. His mother is a house helper and father works as a labourer. They come from families where education isn’t considered relevant and important for the future of children. Over that the income of the families never measures up for educational needs.

That is where Hope School played a key impetus in Ansh’s life. The only thing holding him back from receiving education was finances and we believe that factor should never come in the way of a person’s destiny. And therefore, he decided to join the free education provided so close to his dwelling.

When we first met Ansh he was timid. He kept to himself. Most times he wouldn’t even have the courage to ask permission to go use the washroom. With the kindness and patience shown towards him, we started building trust with him, as school at times could be overwhelming for him. Time and time again we encouraged his efforts wherever we possibly could and Ansh grew in his confidence.

As time has passed, Ansh now considers Hope School his family, he approaches teachers without any hesitation and comes in with a smile. He wants to be a doctor one day because he loves medicine and the concepts of biology. He has become very disciplined in his studies as he hopes to make his parents and teachers proud in achieving his goal. He has immense gratitude for the place and opportunity he has received. We are thankful for his life and his part at the school!
